On 26 July 2023, a taxi driver, a man in his 60s (reports differ between 60s and late 60s), was assaulted and his vehicle seized on Military Road near Phoenix Park, Dublin, after Donna Dineen, a 28-year-old woman, allegedly choked him with the seatbelt, dragged him from the cab, and punched or kicked him in the face before driving off. Dineen was arrested that evening and co-accused Gillian Byrne, a 38-year-old woman, phoned 999 to report the offence and her role. In October 2024, Dineen pleaded guilty at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to unlawful seizure of a vehicle and assault causing harm and was sentenced to four and a half years, with the final nine months suspended on conditions including 12 months' probation supervision. Byrne also pleaded guilty to the same offences and is to be sentenced on 28 February 2025.
