latest first- Knifepoint robbery of elderly siblings in Cork under investigation Robbery (at knifepoint) · Co. Cork
On 13 February 2022, a masked male intruder entered the home of Gerry O'Halloran, 79, on Boyce's Street in the Gurranabraher area of Cork City, where his 83-year-old sister Mary O'Halloran was visiting, and held the pair at knifepoint for about an hour before stealing €1,800 in cash described as their life savings. The intruder cut the phone line to prevent the victims calling for help and fled on foot; both were treated at the scene for non-life-threatening injuries and Mary suffered a cut to her thumb. No arrests have been made and Gardaí are appealing for witnesses and dashcam footage from the area. Gerry spent six weeks in hospital following the incident and was given a new home by SHARE Cork, while a GoFundMe page raised over €31,000 for the siblings.
