On 30 June 2025 a group confronted a man from Afghanistan in his 40s in People's Park, Limerick, filmed him and attempted a 'citizens arrest', then walked him to Henry Street Garda Station, where gardaí said the alleged conduct was not criminal. At about 3.45pm on 1 July 2025 he was attacked in the Parnell Street area of Limerick City and taken to University Hospital Limerick with non-life-threatening injuries. Gardaí linked the attack to the shared footage and online allegations they describe as unfounded, and no arrest or suspect has been reported. As of 7 July 2025 gardaí were appealing for witnesses to contact Roxboro Road Garda Station.
