Gene Barry (85), of Birr, County Offaly, pleaded guilty to careless driving after a pedestrian was knocked down on Wilmer Road, Birr, on 3 March 2024 shortly after 7pm. Reports differ on the pedestrian's injuries: one says a knee was damaged with no breaks or fractures, while another says no one was injured. Gardaí sought a special disqualification order at Tullamore District Court, and the case was adjourned to 23 April for a medical report. The case was then adjourned to 16 July 2025 for production of Mr Barry's driving licence, and the judge said he would not disqualify him once the licence was produced.
