• Man sentenced to three years for arson at Castlefin Garda Station Arson · Co. Donegal

In the early hours of 21 January 2023, Gary McGinley, a 35-year-old man from Castlefin, County Donegal, poured petrol on a marked Garda patrol car parked outside Castlefin Garda Station and set it alight, causing €17,500 in damage. He was arrested that evening following an armed Garda operation and charged with arson under the Criminal Damage Act 1991. McGinley pleaded guilty at Donegal Circuit Court in March 2023 and was remanded on continuing bail pending sentencing. On 3 November 2023, Judge John Aylmer at Letterkenny Circuit Court sentenced him to three years in prison with the final 12 months suspended.
