Gary Coffey, 37, was found guilty by a jury at the Central Criminal Court in March 2025 of anally raping and sexually assaulting a woman at his home on Leinster Road West, Dublin, in January 2023. The pair had met on an online dating site and arranged to go for drinks, but Coffey asked the woman to come to his house instead. Despite the woman telling him repeatedly that he did not have her legal consent, Coffey anally raped her with his finger and held his arms around her chest. On 21 June 2025, Ms Justice Karen O'Connor sentenced Coffey to five years and three months, backdated to when he entered custody in March 2025.
