A far-right group calling itself the Irish Defence Army planned to firebomb the Maryam Mosque on Monivea Road, Galway, between 4 and 5 November 2025. Gardaí foiled the plot when a drugs unit stopped a car in Portlaoise, Co Laois, on 4 November 2025 and found pipe bomb components, weapons and a group manifesto. Garrett Pollock, 36, from Co Down; Karolis Peckauskas, 39, a Lithuanian national from Co Louth; and Darren Gorman, 34, from Co Laois, pleaded guilty at the Special Criminal Court in June 2026, while co-accused Charles Flynn, 35, from Co Limerick, remains charged. On 30 October 2026, the Special Criminal Court sentenced Pollock to 10.5 years with the final year suspended, and Gorman and Peckauskas to eight years each with the final year suspended.

Garrett Pollock, a 35-year-old man from Annalong, Co Down, and Karolis Peckauskas, a 39-year-old Lithuanian man from Drogheda, Co Louth, were arrested on 4 November 2025 in Portlaoise, Co Laois, after a car search at O'Moore Place yielded four threaded pipe end caps, six litres of hydrogen peroxide and a manifesto linked to an alleged right-wing group called the Irish Defence Army. The group allegedly planned to attack Galway Mosque, IPAS centres and hotels housing migrants, and a video of four masked men was found on Pollock's phone. Both men were charged with possession of an explosive substance and remanded in custody after bail was refused at Portlaoise District Court. Peckauskas has since challenged the constitutionality of his charge under Section 4 of the Explosives Act in the High Court, and the prosecution is stayed while the court, which reserved its judgment in June 2026, considers the case.
