Christopher Mulhall, 33, of Portlaoise, was arrested at 12.30am on 31 October 2021 after stumbling on Main Street, Portlaoise, and using threatening and abusive words towards Garda O'Keeffe. He was charged with intoxication, using threatening, abusive or insulting words, and failing to give his name and address. The case was heard at Portlaoise District Court, where Mulhall, a former League of Ireland player with 11 previous public order convictions, was sentenced to three months in the Midlands Prison, suspended for one year. A condition of the suspended sentence was that he abstain from alcohol, and the judge warned that if he was seen drinking he would be in breach of the bond and would go to prison.
