    On 1 May 2020 at 7.55pm, Ciaran Williamson, 31, a man from Portlaoise, was in a black VW Passat in a cul de sac at Lakeside Gardens, Kilminchy, while Gardaí and the Drugs Unit were searching a house under a warrant. The car accelerated towards Garda Galwey, who was wearing a high viz jacket, and despite being shouted at to stop, Williamson did not, hitting the garda on the wrist with no injuries. Williamson pleaded guilty to an assault on a peace officer at Portlaoise District Court, where Judge Staines described it as an extremely serious incident. He was sentenced to ten months in prison in February 2022, while already serving a sentence on other matters.
