latest first- Gardaí end investigation into alleged threat over tweet in Castlebar Alleged offence over a tweet · Co. Mayo
In 2024, journalist Gabija Gataveckaite tweeted about a Garda investigation into an alleged death threat against Paul Murphy TD, and Stephen Kerr replied with the words 'RIP Gabija Gataveckaite.' Gataveckaite complained to Gardaí about the reply, and Kerr was arrested at his home in Castlebar, Co Mayo, about two years later in late February 2026, by three gardai who travelled from Dublin. Kerr denies any intent to threaten and describes the tweet as a joke. In May 2026, Gardaí based in Ballymun confirmed they are no longer investigating the complaint.
