  Francisco Javier Valverde Mateo (39), a nurse, secretly filmed a child in a leisure centre changing room in Galway. He pleaded guilty to covert filming and to possessing 3,999 images and 1,163 videos of child sexual abuse material, was convicted at Galway Circuit Court in May 2025, and was jailed for 2½ years with the final year suspended. His registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland was suspended in June 2025, and the board considered cancelling it at a January 2026 meeting. In March 2026 the High Court cancelled his registration, and he remains in custody.
