    On 25 July 2021, a husband and wife stopped to help an injured man they saw on the road at Ahenure, Callan, Kilkenny, and he spat at the woman and bit the husband on the cheek, leaving a scar on the side of his face. Francis McQuaid, of Dun Laoghaire, Dublin, said he had been accosted by four males while walking before running onto the road. He was convicted of two assault offences at Kilkenny District Court and ordered to pay €20,000 in compensation to the family. The case was adjourned to 11 April 2023 for the judge to finalise matters.
