    On 6 April 2020, €50,000 in cash was handed to Ciara Lynch, 33, by a man in a Mr Price shopping bag at the Midway Food Court car park, Portlaoise, Co Laois. Ciara Lynch, 33, Kathleen O'Reilly, 42, Francis Maguire, 37, and Simon McGinley, 23 were charged with money laundering in relation to the sum. The DPP directed trial on indictment in July 2022 and the case was sent to Portlaoise Circuit Court in October 2022. Lynch and O'Reilly pleaded guilty in January 2024, and Lynch was sentenced to 18 months in prison at Portlaoise Circuit Court.
