Francis Hannon, 69, of Ballinasloe, Co Galway, was fully naked and masturbating in his upstairs bedroom of homeless accommodation in Gort, south Galway, at 2pm on 15 June 2025, in clear view of three women at a neighbouring address. He pleaded guilty at Gort District Court to exposing his genitals intending to cause fear, distress or alarm to a woman under Section 45(1) of the Criminal Law (Sexual Offences) Act 2017. Judge Adrian Harris noted Hannon's former Garda service as an aggravating factor and his 44 previous convictions, including a 1997 sexual assault conviction. On 28 May 2026, Hannon was sentenced to four months' imprisonment, and he is currently in custody for the same offence facing a similar case in another Galway court.
