Cases
latest first- Man sentenced for fraud on 97-year-old woman in Edenderry Fraud · Co. Offaly
Martin Wall, 23, from Rathdrum, Co. Wicklow, pleaded guilty to inducing Frances Byrne, 97, to pay him €500 in advance by false representation after he and a companion posed as painters at her home on Windsor Terrace, Edenderry, in June 2025. Gardaí linked a van seen on CCTV to Wall through its registration number and arrested him at Dublin Airport. He was initially charged with theft of four rings, a charge the prosecution later dropped. At Tullamore Circuit Court on April 15, 2026, the judge sentenced Wall to 15 months in custody, backdated to August 8, 2025, with a further 15 months suspended for four years. Wall's companion was not prosecuted and remains at large.
