  • Jesuit Order apologises over child sexual abuse allegations in Galway Undisclosed · Co. Galway

An unspecified incident occurred at a residence in Ballymacward village, Galway, between 9 and 10 February 2025, and Gardaí are investigating all circumstances. A Jesuit Order working group revealed two complaints of child sexual abuse against Fr Michael McGrath (1910-1989) from his ministry in Galway, one at Our Lady's Boys Club and one at St Ignatius' College. The group, which investigated files on 37 deceased Jesuit priests and brothers, named 15 in its findings and said it was not aware of any allegations made against Fr McGrath during his lifetime. All allegations have been shared with Gardaí, and the Jesuit Order apologised for its failings in handling the abuse.
