  • Sentence reduced on appeal for Dublin mother convicted of sexually abusing son Sexual offences against a child (indecent assault and sexual assault) · Co. Dublin

Suzanna Hassett, 66, of Clondalkin, Dublin, pleaded guilty to 13 counts of indecent assault and four counts of sexual assault against her son Fionn Daly, committed between 1984 and 1995 when he was an infant up to 11. Daly made a complaint to gardaí in 2017, and Hassett attended a voluntary interview in December 2018. She entered an early guilty plea to the 1980s counts and pleaded to the 1990s counts shortly before trial. Judge Martin Nolan sentenced her to eight years in November 2022, with the final 18 months suspended. The Court of Appeal quashed that sentence in July 2023 and imposed six years, with the final 18 months suspended.
