latest first- Man sentenced to two years for assault on gardai in Tullamore Assault causing harm · Co. Offaly
Curtis Dunne, 43, of Mucklagh, Offaly, was charged with assaulting Garda Tom Dunne, Garda Declan Sheeran, Det Garda Rory Heffernan and Sergeant Fergus Collins at Arden View, Tullamore, between July 3 and August 14, 2020, along with charges of criminal damage, theft and possession of two knives. In April 2022, Tullamore Circuit Court heard he was not fit to plead, and the case was adjourned for a fit to plead hearing. In December 2023, Judge Keenan Johnson condemned the mob mentality that gathered during the incident and set a headline sentence of three years and three months, reduced to two years. The judge adjourned the sentence conditional on Dunne taking advantage of a full treatment plan, with the case put back to 19 March 2024.
