  • High Court deems assets crime proceeds in Dublin money laundering case Money laundering · Co. Dublin

The Criminal Assets Bureau brought High Court proceedings against 13 people over approximately 50 assets linked to a money-laundering scheme allegedly run by a Chinese crime gang led by Peng Fei He. In June 2020, Gardaí seized hundreds of thousands of euros in cash during searches at a safety deposit box in Dublin, a storage unit in Bray, and the home of woman Xiaoxia Zheng and man Jianfei Zheng in Tallaght. In June 2023, a High Court judge deemed cash, luxury goods and vehicles linked to the Zhengs, Chinese man Xie Xing Xue and woman Feng Yun Chen to be crime proceeds on the balance of probabilities. Only three of the 13 respondents could proceed at that hearing due to service issues. Xiaoxia Zheng said some of the money was given to her to buy personal protective equipment for use in China during the pandemic.
