Adam Doyle, 31, of Balbriggan, punched Evan Somers, 23, with a closed fist on Dame Street, Dublin, in the early hours of 10 April 2022, after a verbal argument; Somers told gardaí Doyle used homophobic insults, which Doyle disputes. Somers sustained a fractured eye socket, two ankle fractures, a dislocated ankle, and minor injuries, requiring surgery and six days in hospital. Gardaí viewed CCTV footage of the assault but could not identify the accused until the footage was aired on RTÉ's Crimecall in October 2023, after which Doyle handed himself in. Doyle pleaded guilty at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court and was sentenced on 4 December 2024 to 18 months suspended in full, conditional on keeping the peace and being of good behaviour for two years and handing over €13,000 as a token of remorse.
