  Eugene Murray, a 69-year-old man who was wheelchair-bound and had recently had one leg amputated below the knee, was found dead with a single stab wound to his abdomen at his home in the Kilmore estate, Ballyjamesduff, Co Cavan, on Saturday evening, 15 August 2026. A post-mortem at Our Lady's Hospital Navan confirmed the stab wound as the cause of death. Gardaí are treating the death as suspicious and a decision is expected on whether the case will be upgraded to murder. A Senior Investigating Officer has been appointed, an incident room established at Bailieborough Garda Station, and an appeal issued for camera footage from the area between 6pm and midnight on the day of the death.
