  Eric Nicholson, 30, of 6 Oak Drive, Ballacollig, Mountmellick, was charged with arson at Old Mill, Portlaoise, and burglary at Elm Park, Ballacollig, where a woman's car keys were stolen on February 17, 2026. A Nissan Micra was set alight on October 10, 2026, and Nicholson was arrested after being captured on CCTV buying a lighter and concealing a fork. He appeared before Portlaoise District Court on October 10, and on October 14 Judge Tom MacSharry refused bail, remanding him in custody to reappear via video link on October 19.

  Eric Nicholson, 25, of Mountmellick, was fined €250 at Portlaoise District Court for being drunk and abusive to a garda. On 30 April 2022, after having drinks with friends, Nicholson was highly intoxicated and unsteady on his feet at Limetree Avenue, Kilminchy, Portlaoise. When a garda approached, he called Garda Considine a paedophile and a pig. He admitted the offence and his solicitor asked to apologise in open court. Judge Patricia Cronin imposed the fine on 24 June 2022.
