  Enda Gavigan, a 37-year-old man, used a wheel brace and bricks to smash windows of a house at Four Mile House, Co Roscommon, on the morning of October 10, 2019, visiting three times between 4am and 10.40am. After his arrest, he made threats to kill against gardaí from the back of the patrol van and continued while detained at the station. He pleaded guilty to criminal damage, production of an article capable of inflicting serious injury, and making threats. Judge Francis Comerford sentenced him to a total of nine years and three months on June 26, 2020, days after Detective Garda Colm Horkan was shot dead. The Court of Appeal quashed the consecutive portion of the sentence, substituting a five-year concurrent term.
