latest first- Brother sentenced to jail for raping adopted sister in Cork Sexual assault · Co. Cork
Emmett Baylor, a 47-year-old man from Hilltop, Youghal, Co Cork, was sentenced to two and a half years in jail at the Central Criminal Court in Cork on 30 July 2025 after being found unanimously guilty of sexually assaulting, indecently assaulting and orally raping his adopted sister Niamh Herbert, a 41-year-old woman, when she was aged between six and nine and he was aged 12 to 16. The offences occurred at the family home in Youghal over a three-year period, with the rapes occurring in the latter half. Ms Herbert reported the abuse to Gardaí in 2018 after spending many nights parked outside the garda station. The judge, Ms Justice Siobhán Lankford, noted that a larger custodial sentence would have been imposed on an adult for the same offences, and Baylor was also placed on the sexual offenders register.
