On 25 September 2014, a gang of three men burst into the home of Irish postmistress Susan Lawlor, 58, at Seabury Drive, Malahide, Dublin, and tied up Lawlor, her daughter Emma Carter, and Italian student Gabriella Saisa with cable ties before driving them to the Bayside Post Office in Sutton, where the safe was emptied. Paschal Kelly, 56, was convicted of robbery, false imprisonment, and other offences and sentenced to 18 years by Dublin Circuit Criminal Court in 2018. Kelly appealed his conviction and sentence to the Court of Appeal in October 2022, which was adjourned to December 2022. In October 2024, the High Court heard that four linked civil claims arising from the kidnapping are before the court, with An Post prepared to enter mediation.
