  Emilian Jaskowiak, a 40-year-old kitchen porter at Dromoland Castle in Co Clare, was found guilty by a jury at Ennis Circuit Court of giving false or misleading evidence in a personal injuries action. He had claimed to have fallen from a height in the kitchen of the Fig Tree restaurant at Dromoland Golf Club House on 20 January 2022 while using a chair to climb on top of an oven to clean the overhead hood, and signed an affidavit in a claim seeking up to €60,000. No independent witness in the small kitchen saw or heard the fall. He was charged on 5 May 2023 under the Civil Liability and Courts Act 2004, and after a three-day trial the jury returned a guilty verdict after 24 minutes of deliberation. Judge Francis Comerford remanded him on bail to fix a sentencing date later in the month.
