    Elzbieta Piotrowska, a Polish woman, was decapitated at the family home at Clonmore, Ardee, County Louth, on 8 January 2019. Her son Tomasz Piotrowski, a 35-year-old man, pleaded guilty to the murder. He was sentenced to life imprisonment at the Central Criminal Court on 11 March 2021. An inquest held in Drogheda in October 2021 heard that her husband Krystof Piotrowski told Gardaí he did not wish to see his son again.
