  • Waterford arson murder under investigation as two charged remain remanded Murder and arson · Co. Waterford

Philip English, a man in his late 40s, his wife Kim English, and their sons Callum, 12, and Jayden, 9, died when an incendiary device was thrown at their home in the Birchwood estate, Waterford City, shortly after 5am on 13 October 2026, while two other children, a 14-year-old girl and a six-year-old boy, were rescued in critical condition. Gardaí believe the attack was carried out by a local drugs gang as part of a campaign of intimidation over a €20,000 debt owed by an associate of Philip English. Cian Stacey, 21, and Jessica Dalton, 31, were arrested on 15 October and charged with one count of criminal damage and two counts of assault causing serious harm; they were remanded in custody at Waterford District Court on 20 October with a return date of 17 November. Five further people were arrested between 20 and 22 October but all were released without charge by 26 October, with files to be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.
