William Sheehy (57) and Eleanor Sheehy (50) ran a dog breeding operation in an old piggery at Grange More, Timoleague, Co Cork, where an ISPCA inspector found more than 50 dogs emaciated and kept in soiled pens in March 2023. The Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine charged each of them with nine offences under the Animal Health and Welfare Act 2013, and both pleaded guilty to six offences each at Clonakilty District Court, a case first heard there in September 2024 and reported by 5 November 2024. At Bandon District Court, reported on 7 November 2024, both were given five-month jail terms suspended on condition they pay €12,822 in costs, were fined €6,000 each, and were disqualified from owning or breeding dogs for life. The latest development is the sentencing, under which the remaining dogs at the breeding operation were ordered to be surrendered immediately.
