Eldhose Yohannan, a phlebotomist originally from India, sexually assaulted a 15-year-old girl and a woman in her early 20s while taking their blood samples at the emergency department of Mullingar Regional Hospital, Co Westmeath, on separate dates in 2022, the first on 8 August. He initially denied the charges but pleaded guilty after the trial began before a jury, as reported in December 2024, and sentencing was adjourned until March for reports. On 26 March 2025 Judge Keenan Johnson at Mullingar Circuit Criminal Court gave him a three-year sentence suspended on conditions including 18 months' probation supervision and treatment for sexual offending. He also paid €10,500 in compensation to the victims, with €8,000 going to the younger complainant.
