latest first- IRFU to file Garda complaint over racist abuse of rugby player Racist abuse
Racist abuse was directed at 23-year-old Munster rugby player Edwin Edogbo on social media following his Six Nations debut against Italy at the Aviva Stadium in February 2026. Edogbo was born and raised in Cobh, Co. Cork, to Nigerian parents. The Irish Rugby Football Union received five case files from data analytics firm Signify, which showed three of the accounts making the comments were based in Ireland. The IRFU said on 18 March 2026 it would make a formal criminal complaint to An Garda Síochána in the coming days.
