• Gardaí renew appeal in Buncrana murder investigation Murder · Co. Donegal

Edward Fullerton, a Sinn Féin councillor and father of six, was shot dead at his home in Buncrana, Co Donegal on 25 May 1991 by members of the Ulster Defence Association. The night before, four armed and masked men held a family hostage for over three hours before stealing their car and forcing their way into the Fullerton home. A 56-year-old man was arrested in December 2021 in connection with the murder, detained at Letterkenny Garda Station, and released without charge; a file was prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions. The investigation remains live and ongoing, with Gardaí renewing their appeal for information on the 35th anniversary in May 2026.
