latest first- Retired Defence Forces member sentenced for indecent assault in Limerick Indecent assault (sexual abuse of children) · Co. Limerick
Eddie Lillis, a 63-year-old retired Defence Forces member of Limerick, was convicted of indecently assaulting two girls aged between three and eight in the 1980s, including one incident shortly before a girl's First Holy Communion. After the first assault, Girl A gave a formal statement to Gardaí but the DPP directed there was not enough evidence to prosecute; the case was reinvestigated in 2020 after new complaints from both victims. Lillis pleaded not guilty to all five charges and was convicted on four, with the jury unable to reach a decision on the fifth. He was sentenced to three and a half years at Limerick Circuit Criminal Court and placed on the sex offenders register for an indefinite period.
