Jack Clarke, a 13-year-old boy with autism, is pursuing a High Court claim that consultant neurologist Dr Raymond Murphy of the Charlemont Clinic in Dublin failed to warn his mother, Elizabeth Elliot Clarke, about autism risks from the epilepsy drug Epilim during her pregnancy with him in 2008. Dr Murphy prescribed Epilim to Elizabeth Elliot Clarke over a 14-year period from 1999, and in 2000 advised only about a low spina bifida risk. The claims were denied, and the case opened on 28 February 2023 before being adjourned for mediation. On 2 March 2023 Mr Justice Paul Coffey approved a €15m settlement for Jack without admission of liability and a €2.65m settlement for his brother Tom, in a case where liability was admitted, while a claim for their sister Hanna remains pending.
