An anaesthetist, Dr Aamir Zuberi, is alleged to have sexually assaulted four unconscious patients at Naas General Hospital in Co Kildare between 2016 and 2017. Staff members who witnessed the incidents reported their concerns to hospital management in December 2017 and later to local Gardaí. Dr Zuberi was placed on administrative leave and left Ireland for Pakistan in the summer of 2019. Three investigations by the HSE, the Irish Medical Council and An Garda Síochána are ongoing, with Gardaí liaising with Interpol, but the criminal case has stalled because Ireland has no extradition treaty with Pakistan.
