  • Teenager named in fatal road traffic accident in Co. Cork Road traffic accident causing death · Co. Cork

    A car and a truck collided on the N71 between Ballinhassig and Innishannon in Co. Cork at approximately 7:15 am on Monday 21 July 2025. Dovydas Palkis, 19, a man from Gortnaclohy Heights in Skibbereen, was the driver of the car and was pronounced dead at the scene after suffering critical injuries. Garda Forensic Collision Investigators were informed and a technical examination is to be carried out. The road was closed following the crash and has since reopened. A Requiem Mass for Palkis was held at St Patrick's Cathedral in Skibbereen on 25 July 2025, followed by cremation at the Island Crematorium in Ringaskiddy.
