A Romanian couple from Moyglare Village, Maynooth, Co Kildare, fraudulently claimed over €114,000 in social welfare payments between April 2017 and January 2019. Cristan Turbat, 39, worked for a construction company under his brother-in-law's name while his wife Dorina Turbat, 41, applied for Jobseeker's Allowance claiming he was out of work. Gardaí searched the couple's home and found €21,350 in cash; Dorina Turbat later returned to Romania and was extradited back to Ireland. The couple pleaded guilty at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to sample charges representative of an indictment of over 570 charges. Both were sentenced to 18 months in prison, a headline sentence of three years reduced for mitigation.
