latest first- Four acquitted of breaching Covid restrictions at Clifden golf dinner Public health (non-compliance with Covid restrictions) · Co. Galway
On 19 August 2020, 81 people attended an Oireachtas Golf Society dinner at the Station House Hotel in Clifden, Co Galway, when indoor gatherings were limited to 50 people. Noel Grealish, 55, captain of the society, Donie Cassidy, 75, president of the society, and hoteliers John Sweeney, 60, and his son James Sweeney, 32, were charged in February 2021 with organising the event in breach of the Health Act 1947. The trial began at Galway District Court on 6 January 2022 before Judge Mary Fahy. On 3 February 2022, Judge Fahy dismissed all charges, finding the 81 attendees were accommodated in two distinct areas divided by a partition wall and that the organisers had done everything to comply with regulations.
