• Three men jailed for cocaine trafficking in Cork Drug trafficking (cocaine) · Co. Cork

Revenue officers and the Garda National Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau seized about 60kg of cocaine valued at €4.2 million hidden in panels in a refrigerated container at the Port of Cork's container terminal in Ringaskiddy in the early hours of 5 August 2023. Albanian nationals Gentjan Dodaj, 39, and his brother Donatel Dodaj, 22 (reports also give 30), and Romanian national Daniel Afedoaei, 22, were arrested and charged with possession of cocaine and possession of cocaine for sale or supply. The men appeared at Cork District Court on 7 August 2023, were remanded in custody, and later pleaded guilty. On 26 April 2024, Cork Circuit Criminal Court sentenced the Dodaj brothers to nine years with the last year suspended and Afedoaei to nine and a half years with the final 18 months suspended, though headlines reported eight years for all three.
