A €2 billion civil conspiracy-to-defraud case brought in 2016 by four Caribbean-registered firms against Russian billionaire Dmitry Mazepin and co-defendants is proceeding in the Dublin High Court. Mazepin, a close associate of Russian president Vladimir Putin and on an EU sanctions list, allegedly controls Dublin-registered company Eurotroaz Ltd, which is central to the dispute. The defendants had argued the Irish courts lacked jurisdiction, but Mr Justice David Barniville refused the application on Thursday, 24 March 2022, ruling that justice required the case to be heard in Ireland.
