In June 2016, a woman in Dublin 24 was temporarily paralysed after her cocaine was spiked and was raped by a drugs courier, then by her tenant Dmitrus Aleinkovs, a man aged 31 (reports differ: 33). Aleinkovs left for Latvia before being charged and was extradited to Ireland in December 2022. He was convicted at the Central Criminal Court in October 2024 of one count of rape and sentenced to seven years in December 2024, backdated to his extradition. In October 2026, he argued at an appeal hearing that the case should have been withdrawn from the jury due to missing interview tapes and transcript errors, and the judge reserved judgment.
