Diego Costa Silva also told gardai that he had confessed to cheating on his wife and that he believed she was going to try to kill him. He said he didn't feel safe and thought that if he didn't do it, "she could do it to me".

On 4 November 2021, the body of Brazilian woman Fabiole Camara De Campos, aged 32, was found with fatal knife injuries and her head severed from her torso at the couple's apartment in Charlestown Place, Finglas, Dublin 11. Her husband, Brazilian man Diego Costa Silva, aged 35, was arrested on suspicion of murder and charged with murder contrary to common law. At his trial at the Central Criminal Court in March 2024, two forensic psychiatrists testified that Silva was suffering from cannabis-induced psychosis at the time of the killing. A jury found Silva not guilty of murder by reason of insanity on 8 March 2024, and he was returned to the Central Mental Hospital for ongoing treatment.
