A one kilo bag of cannabis with an estimated street value of €21,152 was found in a shopping bag on the back seat of a car stopped at the Dunleer exit on the M1 northbound in Louth in October 2019. Diarmuid Johnson, 44, of Clones, Co Monaghan, consented to the vehicle being searched after gardaí from Finglas followed his Northern Ireland registered car. He pleaded guilty to possessing cannabis for sale or supply in October 2019 and was fined €200 with a two-year sentence deferred on a good behaviour bond. In March 2022, Judge Patrick Quinn at Dundalk Circuit Court discharged him under Section 100(11) of the Criminal Justice Act 2006 after he had paid the fine and had not come to further garda attention.
