Jim Mansfield Jnr, 54, a man from Saggart, Co Dublin, was sentenced on 7 February 2022 to two years in prison with the final six months suspended for perverting the course of justice. He was convicted by the Special Criminal Court of directing Patrick Byrne, Martin Byrne's brother, to destroy CCTV footage showing him with Martin Byrne on the morning of 9 June 2015, when Byrne was kidnapped by Dessie O'Hare and Declan 'Whacker' Duffy at Keating Park in west Dublin. Martin Byrne, 53, was falsely imprisoned at Finnstown House Hotel in Lucan between 9 and 12 June 2015. Mansfield Jnr was acquitted of conspiracy to falsely imprison Byrne, the court finding insufficient evidence he knew the two men planned the kidnapping. The trial, which began in October 2020, was heard by a three-judge non-jury court presided over by Mr Justice Alex Owens.
