A 29-year-old man, Desmond O'Neill of St Brendan's, Ballinasloe, Co Galway, was charged with the unlawful possession of a 9mm Makarov PM-63 RAK sub-machine gun and various ammunition at the N18, Ballycaseymore, Shannon on 15 March 2026. He also faces charges of possessing 20 12 gauge shotgun cartridges, four 9mm rounds, and three 7.65mm rounds on the same date and location. At Ennis District Court on 21 October 2026, Judge Adrian Harris returned him for trial to the current sittings of Ennis Circuit Court. The judge issued an alibi warning requiring 14 days' notice to the State.
