    A 23-year-old man was seriously injured in an assault at a residential property in Ballivor, Co Meath, on 7 September 2026, and remains in critical condition at Beaumont Hospital in Dublin. Des Sheils, 45, of Balbriggan, Co Dublin, was arrested and charged with assault causing harm, production of an article in the course of a dispute, and threats to kill or cause harm. He allegedly used a ladder to access a balcony and attacked the victim with a hammer. He appeared at Trim District Court on 9 September 2026, was granted bail, and was remanded to 20 October 2026.
