On 31 January 2021 at 9:23pm, Garda Kelleher stopped a commercial vehicle at Galross Cross, Birr, Offaly, and found a child about five years old sitting unrestrained on a toolbox. The driver, a 41-year-old man named Dermot Talbot, was charged with the child not being properly restrained in a vehicle. He told the court that a fractious situation had developed and he had removed the child to prevent disorder. In April 2022, Judge Patricia Cronin fined him €350 and added penalty points to his licence, noting his 29 previous convictions, the majority for traffic offences.
