On July 16, 2025, Dermot Costello, a 25-year-old man, was charged with escaping lawful custody at Dundalk Courthouse. On July 17, 2025, Rail staff removed him from a train at Clarke Railway Station because it was not going any further, and he was charged with damaging a Vauxhall Vectra in the car park at Dundalk railway station and interfering with its mechanism. He was also charged with damaging a cell at Dundalk Courthouse and the cell of a Garda Ford Transit Connect van. The case was heard at Dundalk District Court, where Judge Stephanie Coggans imposed a three-month sentence, reported on 25 September 2025.
