Derek Wyer, a 47-year-old man from Tullamore, was arrested at 2:05am on 20 March 2022 outside the Bridge House nightclub on Bridge Street, Tullamore, after telling Garda Andrew Barron to 'go f**k himself' when directed to leave the area. He had been drinking in the Harbour Bar until 12pm and at the Bridge House with his wife Ruth after attending the Ireland versus Scotland match at the Aviva Stadium. He was charged with threatening and abusive behaviour under Section 6 of the Public Order Act at 6:25am and arraigned at Tullamore District Court in April 2022, where the case was adjourned to 4 May 2022. In December 2022, Judge Andrew Cody imposed a fine of €500 with three months to pay and granted leave to appeal following a request from defence solicitor Donal Farrelly.
