Derek Reid, 35, a man from Clonliffe Road, Dublin 3, repeatedly assaulted and sexually assaulted his then-partner, a woman, in their city centre flat in Dublin between 10 and 16 March 2018. The pair had met online in February 2017 and in person in mid-February 2018. Reid pleaded guilty to two counts of sexual assault and false imprisonment, and had been in custody since May 2021. In January 2023, Justice Burns sentenced him to concurrent terms of six-and-a-half years for the sexual assaults, with the final year suspended, and five-and-a-half years for false imprisonment, resulting in a five-and-a-half year jail term.
